The Trying of My Soul Part 1

This may seem odd to you at first, but when men, women, media and all manner of institutions change the meaning of words, a rift in the fabric of our society appears. A certain estrangement occurs. Sides are picked. Then an irrational anger grows from this rift. Words that once had meaning now ferment ideas without a real foundation. There are many words that this happening to. But let’s take two, conservative and liberal.
Does anyone actually take the time to define these two words? Does anyone reflect on how these words shape and fit into their lives?

I don’t think we do. Instead we always seem to explain them with examples that destroy their meaning. We demonize people instead of debate with substance. We feel good and smug in our own false self-righteousness. We never have to actually explain our stance.
Does anyone actually see a difference between men and woman politically or otherwise that call themselves either a conservative or a liberal?

Why do we let this rift, this fissure in our fabric cause a watering down of individual liberty and freedom? Is it for our own insecure needs and wants? Or maybe it’s our lack of taking responsibility for ourselves? Is it from a certain ignorance or laziness? Maybe this all comes from a gross lack of self-reflection in our postmodern information age.

It’s hard to be free isn’t it? As my friend Mr. Paine has said, “ Society is produced by our wants and government by our wickedness.”

Is anyone looking around to see what our society and government look like?

Yes.

A) The insatiable thirst for celebrity gossip.

B) The impending nanny-state environment coming in under the guise of "entitlements," and handouts to bastard-factories.
